The seat of Graham County is Robbinsville, a picturesque Appalachian village which has been featured in numerous movies, including Harrison Ford's "The Fugitive". If one finds oneself a fugitive from the law in the county of Graham, its historic courthouse is a place one might wind up. The courthouse is a significant fixture in a town whose population totals fewer than one thousand, it serves a countywide population of nearly eight times that number. Graham county was formed January 30, 1872, from the northeastern part of Cherokee County. It was named for William A. Graham, United States Senator from North Carolina (1840–1843) and Governor of North Carolina (1845–1849).
